Summer Solstice, Capricorn Sun, Fire & Earth Element

This weekend is a biggie. We have the Summer Solstice in the early hours of Monday 22nd December 2025 at 2:03am AEDT to be precise, marking the start of Summer and a new cycle. This weekend you may be celebrating the change in season by getting out in nature, connecting with and giving thanks to the elements that support us.

From an astrological perspective, the Sun moves into the sign of Capricorn. Being an Earth and cardinal sign, Capricorn has a powerful initiatory energy (very much needed for the start of a new year). It’s not afraid to get the ball rolling with a desire to build something of importance in a grounded and practical way.

Today (Saturday 20th December 2025) is also a New Moon at 28° Sagittarius, commencing a new lunar cycle and new beginnings.

Sagittarius energy can bring up themes around how you view life, its meaning and how you want to contribute. The desire for more travel or adventure, or developing a more optimistic attitude. Reflecting on beliefs that no longer serve you and others. It’s square Neptune in Pisces, so taking time out for quiet reflection and mediation would be a great way to connect in with your higher self it the powerful guidance it holds. When unbalanced Neptune in Pisces can create escapism and confusion, so if you feel scattered and lacking clarity, reduce the noise and sit in stillness to hear your inner voice of wisdom.

This New Moon is also conjunct Venus, so relationships may be highlighted for you now, but also what you need to feel happy and secure. During the last Scorpio New Moon and Gemini Full Moon cycle last month, you may have had some big stuff surface (Scorpio) and had some honest conversations (Gemini). This new Sagittarius/Capricorn cycle will bring a lighter more adventurous energy (Sagittarius) maybe inspire new plans and intentions.

It will also ask you to look at what beliefs and perceptions of life no longer serve you. Where are you not living authentically? The Sun in Capricorn and Capricorn Full Moon on the 19th January 2026 should help ground you and put plans into action.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, summer aligns with the Fire and Earth elements. Fire energy kicks us off, then Earth energy in the later summer months. The Meridian Energy Channels and their associated organs that are more active during the Fire element and the start of Summer are the Heart, Small Intestines, Triple Heater (Thyroid, Parathyroid, Adrenals, Thymus) and the Pericardium. Fire energy is excitable, active, joyful, creative and loving. When these energies are out of balance, either in excess (too much of the qualities mentioned), or deficient resulting in sadness, lacking excitement, emotionally distant, cold, demanding or creatively blocked.

In the later part of the season when the days begin to shorten, the Earth element Meridian Channels and their associated organs, which are the Stomach and Spleen are more activated. The emotion of worry may set in during this time, particularly if your energies are unbalanced. Issues around boundaries may surface, encouraging you to reflect on where your energy is being spent. Where are you giving your power away? Gut or immune issues may surface, asking you to focus on digestive and mental health (both influencing each other).

Since summer aligns with both the Fire & Earth element and their associated organs, there are quite a few Australian Bush Flower Essences that you could work with. The key will be determining what’s priority for you. Below are a few suggestions:

Waratah – Gives strength and courage to respond to crisis situations and feelings of despair, connects us to our hearts.

Bluebell – Fear of lack, greed, rigidity, infuses belief in abundance, joyful sharing, opens the heart.

Pink Flannel Flower – Seeing life as dull, feeling unhappy and unappreciative, infuses gratitude, joy, appreciation and a lightness of being.

Little Flannel Flower – Seriousness and grimness in adults, denial of the ‘child’ within, infuses a carefree attitude, playfulness and joy.

Crowea – Feeling emotional unbalanced, continual worrying or not feeling quite yourself, infuses peace and calm, clarity of feelings and balance, supports the digestive system.

Paw Paw – Feelings of overwhelm, inability to resolve problems and make decisions, infuses calmness and clarity, and connection with higher self to make more aligned decisions, supports the digestive system.

Enjoy connecting in, acknowledging, and giving thanks to the elemental forces and cycles of nature on this beautiful planet we co-inhabit with all the other beings. Open your heart and allow yourself to let go of outdated beliefs that create conflict and separation. Incorporate practices to stay grounded and connected to your heart.
